Weather: At last there had been several days of rain, some quite heavy, in the two weeks prior to the foray. A truly welcome event.
Report: There were several long distance forayers at Eyeworth ,coming as they did from Essex, Dorset and the West Midlands! Upon entering the wood the most notable effect of the recent rain was the profusion of slime moulds including Lycogala terrestre and Reticularia lycoperdon (Enteridium as was) covering a good proportion of the the fallen wood, particularly on the South East side of the pond. This area was generally more productive than the higher ground to the North and produced several agarics including the first group record of Amanita rubescens this year. There was a large Entoloma specimen and two small specimens on wood. Both sets of spores matched the typical rhomboid spores of Entoloma conferendum and there was discussion as to was whether this was a large var. pusillum as the smaller ones were on wood or were they all var. conferendum as it seemed unlikely we should find both varieties. We found a very fruity badger latrine which had possible small fruitbodies on it although no one was too keen to examine them closely until eventually Sara 'the brave' volunteered (was?) to take some home only to discover they were insects eggs. Very disappointing. I think she should now excused 'poo' collecting for a while!
