Weather: Hardly had the group assembled when a torrential thunderstorm started making it the wettest start of any foray this year, even the football match that was about to start was cancelled by the referee.
Report: We stayed in the clubhouse, ordered lunches and waited for the storm to pass. Fourteen members set off an hour late including leader Eric Janke, who enthusiastically tried to keep us on the move to make up for lost time. There were some early big rings of Clitocybe geotropa (Trooping funnel) and Clitocybe. nebularis (Clouded Funnel) together but the excitement of the morning was a dark brown hairy stemmed oudemansiella. It seemed a match for O. Melanotricha in Courtecuisse but later realised this is not recognised as British and the final verdict is Xerula pudens formerly Oedemansiella longipes which was recorded previously by the group at Crab wood. After a comfortable lunch in the clubhouse and clear weather we set out again and were delighted to find not only several Helvella crispa (White Saddle) but a small 'elastica' type Helvella which was H. Latispora (formerly stevensii). A collection of the Tarzetta cupularis (Toothed Cup) in good condition provided a photo opportunity before the light started to fade once again. With dark clouds looming again the faint hearted including the recorder retired leaving Eric and one or two stalwarts to complete the circuit.
