Noar Hill: Hampshire

Sun 24 Apr 2005

Field event ID HF0501

OS Grid areas: SU7431 SU7432

Weather: Although we have fairly recently had some rain every where still seems very dry.

Report: There was a distinct lack of spring agarics. It was a lovely day for the foray which is quite unusual for our visits to Noar Hill. We did find Tulostoma brumale, Gymnosporangium clavariiforme and Verpa conica, found previously on this site but still interesting to see. Scytinostroma portentosum, with its moth ball smell, was found on Fraxinus, a host it likes but is also one of the beech indicator species. This list is incomplete due to postal problems but hopefully contains the more important finds.

Species list: Ceriporia reticulata, Coprinellus micaceus, Daldinia concentrica, Galerina uncialis, Gymnosporangium clavariiforme, Helvella acetabulum, Hymenochaete cinnamomea, Lachnum virgineum, Litschauerella clematidis, Melanoleuca exscissa, Mitrophora semilibera, Nectria cinnabarina, Scopuloides hydnoides, Scytinostroma portentosum, Steccherinum ochraceum, Stereum hirsutum, Trametes versicolor, Tulostoma brumale, Verpa conica
