Weather: The previous weeks have been very hot with only occasional heavy downpours one of which was forecast for the afternoon.

Report: Whitley Wood car park has been closed to the public for some time but we were lucky and given permission to use it on this occasion. In view of the continuing heatwave expectations of finding many agarics was low which kept us looking at logs and trunks which provided some interesting finds. Whitley Wood is a known site for the rare and protected Piptoporus quercinus (Oak Polypore) and once again it was emerging from its usual site although looking a bit dessicated due to the weather. For those wanting to examine the larger brackets there were three species of ganoderma on display G australe (Southern bracket), G resinaceum and G pfeifferi (Beeswax bracket) along with the white spored Perenniporia fraxinia.

Species list: Biscogniauxia nummularia, Bjerkandera adusta, Chlorociboria aeruginascens, Fuscoporia ferrea, Ganoderma australe, Ganoderma pfeifferi, Ganoderma resinaceum, Hymenochaete rubiginosa, Hypoxylon fragiforme, Laetiporus sulphureus, Perenniporia fraxinea, Piptoporus quercinus, Pleurotus ostreatus, Reticularia lycoperdon, Stereum hirsutum, Stereum rugosum, Stropharia semiglobata, Volvariella bombycina
