Blackwater

Field event ID HF2415
Report: Although this event was open to the public the weather forecast reduced the attendees. The morning saw drizzly showers which turned into more persistent rain in late afternoon.
Whilst still at the edge of the car park, several interesting finds were made, including a group of Ampulloclitocybe clavipes (Club Foot), Inocybe geophylla (White Fibrecap), Cantharellus ciborius (Chanterelle) and Otidea onotica (Hare’s Ear).
We headed, indirectly, towards the arboretum through mixed woodland. Finds, included Cantharellus tubaeformis (Winter Chanterelle), Clavulina rugosa (Wrinkled Club), Fistulina hepatica (Beefsteak Fungus), Mucidula mucida (Porcelain Fungus), Megacollybia platyphylla (Whitelaced Shank), Baeospora myosura (Conifercone Cap) and Tricholomopsis rutilans (Plums and Custard). We also studied the subtle differences between Trametes ochracea (Ochre Bracket) and the more-familiar T. versicolor (Turkeytail). During our lunch break, we pieced together the remains of a Cortinarius bolaris (Dappled Webcap).
In the afternoon we went inside the arboretum after passing an impressive Sparassa crispa (Wood Cauliflower at the base of a pine. Some interesting Cortinarius (Webcap) species were encountered but not identified in the field and some year-old Geastrum (Earthstars) which were either striatum (Striated) or pectinatum (Beaked).
