Report: A rather wet day greeted our intrepid group with the rain not clearing until late afternoon.

The survey was most remarkable for the abundance of Laetiporus sulphureus (Chicken of the Woods) with some sizeable and brightly coloured specimens. Several Fistulina hepatica (Beefsteak Fungus) were also welcome additions to the list.

A few more unusual finds included Pluteus plautus (Satin Shield), the brittlegill, Russula carminipes, and Volvariella bombycina (Silky Rosegill), the latter hiding inside a narrow cleft in a Beech trunk.

Some of the commoner species recorded included Collybia dryophila (Russet Toghshank), Hymenopellis radicata (Rooting Shank), Cantharellus cibarius (Chanterelle) and Pleurotus ostreatus (Oyster Mushroom). Fallen logs provided us with Bulgaria inquinans (Black Bulgar), Calocera pallidospathulata (Pale Stagshorn) and Daldinia concentrica (Cramp Balls).

Some pony dung added both Panaeolus semiovata (Egghead Motllegill) and Stropharia semiglobata (Dung Roundhead).
