Weather: Overcast but not cold. It was very dry underfoot with there being very little rain in the last six weeks.

New Records:
New to Hampshire: Libertella betulina
New to VC12: Parasola misera

Report: (Roger Newton): Expectations were not high in respect of finding many species. However we were all pleasantly surprised. Although there were no particular rarities the group managed to find over seventy species; with a log pile maintaining the attention of the group for well over 40 minutes. What might we have found if there had been some rain in the preceding week? Notes SJS: The logpile that held everyone's attention produced no less than five separate pluteus species, P chrysophaeus, P hispidulus, P leoninus, P podospileus and P cervinus. P pellitus and P salicinus were added later in day making a total of seven pluteus species. A Ganoderma on the famous log aroused interest for its weak upper surface and the possibility of G applanatum entered the discussion. Subsequent spore examination by more than one member confirmed the large spores of G adspersum yet again. Finally JP took away a small 'dacryomyces' which didn't fit under the microscope. He sent his photos to Jacquey who recognised it to be a Libertella, something she had been shown for the first time the previous week. Eventually with further input from Malcolm Storey the species was decided to be L betulina, a little recorded species that seems to be 'squirting' orange twists out of birch bark like toothpaste. This was a new record for Hampshire but apparently 'common on dead twigs' according to Ellis & Ellis.
