Weather: Another fine sunny September week with no rain.

Report: (Sara Cadbury) With the 'great and good' away in the Forest of Dean at the BMS Upland Foray, it was a warm sunny day, without a breath of wind, that saw 11 enthusiastic forayers, including four newcomers from Southampton, search the area around Blashford Lakes. Unfortunately, due to yet another week of dry weather, there were few fungi to be found; rather similar to the foray at Hursley the previous weekend, inspite of it being a damper area. By far the most interesting spectacle of the day was a marvellous display of Cortinarius uliginosus and Cortinarius cinnamomeus, growing all together in a damp area under Salix. The vibrant brick /red colour and the bright olive/yellow colour of the mixing fruit bodies, on a black mud and brown leaf litter background, allowed Paul to indulge in a bout of photography and dirty damp knees. The motto definitely was correct - 'always take your camera with you!' Otherwise, the day was notable for the complete absence of any Russulas or Amanitas - and 'come back Stereum hirsutum, all is forgiven'! - even with 11 pairs of eyes searching. Surely a record in itself!
